- FBI agent Helen Thompson finds false evidence that Mike may be responsible for the assassination attempt with aid from the Russian government and receiving a 10 million payment. She then orders his arrest.
- On the way to a detention facility, Mike's police escort is ambushed and killed by Salient Global troops who proceed to capture Mike. Mike kills his assailants and then unmasks several of the mercenaries, including Bruno. He then deduces that Wade framed him and goes out to clear his name. The FBI soon investigates the scene.
- Wade gets a call from a secure number who berates Wade for letting Mike get away and his potential to expose them. He then orders Wade to kill Mike if he wanted to receive the benefits.
- Mike head to a gas station and calls Leah to check on her. The FBI tracks the call and after Mike hands up, Thompson orders police units in the area to be dispatched. Mike is confronted by a local militia unit, but escapes in a truck with several police units chasing him. He crashes the truck and flees.
- Thompson and her partner Ramirez investigate the crash site and find that the evidence of Mike being the culprit is dwindling.
- Mike steals a truck and travels to his father's cabin in the woods of West Virginia. He has a tense reunion with his father Clay Banning after revealing that Clay had abandoned him and his mother Mary Banning after the Vietnam War and has been living in wooded areas of North Carolina, Alaska, and West Virginia since.
- Wade and his second-in-command Travis Cole dispatch Salient Global mercenaries to Clay's Cabin in West Virginia. Clay and Mike are aware of their presence and use several explosive traps to kill the would-be attackers. In the morning, Mike and Clay leave the cabin and give Thompson and Ramirez the coordinates to the cabin so they can acquire evidence that Mike was truly framed after all.
- The secure number is revealed to be Kirby, who was working with Wade and is the true conspirator of Trumbull's attempted assassination as he believed Trumbull's rejection of private military companies and diplomacy with Russia made America look vulnerable.
- Clay rescues Leah and her daughter after they are on the verge of being kidnapped by Wade's henchmen. He tells Leah that he is Mike's father and that he regrets abandoning them.
- Ramirez and Thompson head to the Salient Global Facility to confront Wade, but he kills them and orders his men to head to St. Matthew's Hospital so they could finish their mission and kill Trumbull and Mike for good.
- Mike heads to the hospital and gives himself up, but Trumbull orders him to be released as Mike had saved him. Mike orders the hospital to be under lockdown but is later forced to evacuate the hospital as Salient Global had increased the nitrogen and oxygen to unstable levels, which would level the hospital.
- A large gunfight occurs between Salient Global and the Secret Service, with casualties on both sides. During the fight, Wilcox and all Secret Service agents are shot dead and the hospital is leveled. Many of the Salient Global mercenaries are killed with the remainder being arrested by the authorities. Wade attempts to escape, but the plan is foiled by Mike. The two engage in a fight, until Mike fatally stabs Wade, who dies moments later from blood loss.

Kirby is impeached and arrested with Gentry personally escorting him out as a gift before his retirement.
- Clay moves in with Mike and his family, intending not abandoned his family again.
- Mike heads to the White House to offer his resignation due to his guilt over hiding his ailments and failing to protect Trumbull. However, Trumbull forgives him and reminds him that he was still alive because of Mike before promoting Mike to Secret Service Director.
