After the assassination attempt on President Allan Trumbull, her boss Helen Thompson ordered to investigate things on her end in the FBI office.
Later, after Secret Service agent Mike Banning, suspected of mastermind the assassination attempt, escaped custody, Peterson tapped on the house phone of the Banning residence. When Mike called his wife Leah, Petersen ran a trace. Banning was aware that the call was being traced, but she and the others were able to trace him to the phone booth at the gas station.
