The Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) is a strip of land that serves as a buffer zone on the Korean Peninsula to divide North Korea from South Korea following the Division of Korea at the end of World War II. The zone is also occupied by the United States Forces Korea (USFK).
Before Olympus Has Fallen
When he was a child, Kang Yeonsak and his mother were attempting to cross the DMZ after his father was executed for crimes against North Korea. However, his mother was killed by an American landmine when they attempted to cross. This would lead Kang to become radicalized for Korean reunification and become driven with psychotic revenge for the deaths of his parents.
During the White House Siege, Kang Yeonsak, head of a paramilitary terrorist organization called the Koreans for United Freedom ordered U.S Speaker of Representatives Allan Trumbull to withdraw all 28,500 American soldiers that were actively defending South Korea from the DMZ to allow a North Korean invasion. Later, the Pentagon ordered American troops at the DMZ to withdraw after 60 years of defending South Korea.
However, after the prevention of America undergoing a nuclear meltdown and the Banning's successful rescue of President Benjamin Asher, the troops were most likely put back to the DMZ.
